Thursday April 12th Ohio University will welcome distinguished feminist lecturer Dr. Nancy Naples from the University of Connecticut.
Naples will present “Queer Citizenship” at the brown bag beginning at 12pm and “It’s Not Fair: Discursive Politics, Social Justice, and Feminist Praxis” at 6pm in Walter Hall 135. Both of these are free events and open to the public.
Naples is a Professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies at the University of Connecticut and a noted author and scholar, specializing in women’s activism and globalization, social policy, feminist theory, community sociology, and gender and race politics. She holds a PhD from the Graduate Center at City University of New York. Naples was recognized as the Sociologists for Women in Society Distinguished Lecturer for 2011/2012.
Naples also serves as the president-elect of the Eastern Sociological Society and as former president of Sociologists for Women in Society and the Society for the Study of Social Problems. She is currently in the process of writing a book that analyzes the relationship between social policy, global economic change and community-based social restructuring in the rural U
nited States. Her past publications have included Feminism and Method: Ethnography, Discourse Analysis, and Activist Research and Women’s Activism and Globalization: Linking Local Struggles and Transnational Politics.
